Why am I supporting Obama?

I got pretty excited about Senator Obama back in December after reading his book, then my energy faded as the primary season dragged on. I've been watching him from a distance now, and here are my latest thoughts.

1. Any of the three remaining candidates will be better than what we've had for the last 8 years.
2. Senator Clinton and Senator Obama have very similar positions on the issues, and by the time they get their legislation through congress, it will be changed anyway.
3. Senator McCain, while a great man, might keep us engaged in Iraq for too long, at too much of a cost.
4. Senator Obama has risen to the occasion each time this winter he has faced a challenge. Each time a difficult situation has come his way, like the bit with Rev. Wright, or the challenges around the South Caroline/Nevada - each time he takes the high moral ground, and answers his critics.

No candidate is perfect, and all of them will make mistakes. The question is, how do they handle those situations. That tells us far more about how they will act in office than any policy statement. Senator Obama is getting my support. Okay, now back to photography.

Detail Collage

I had some minor surgery yesterday. No big detail, just off my feet for two days, but I'm putting off doing my taxes, so I flipped through some old photos and made this detail collage of different odds and ends. If you click on the image it will open nice and big on your web browser.

Details are so important in Weddings

Here's a details page from Kim & Tom's Album. I loved their wedding last year at the State Room in Boston, MA. Funny, almost all my weddings in the last few years are in Rhode Island, which is nice, cause it's close to home. But every once in a while, it's fun to be in Boston. The State Room is an amazing place.

Another Favorite

A couple years ago, I had a wedding in Newport in the fall. It was nearly a hurricane. I love this image, and just goes to show you - don't worry about the weather! I'm the one that's getting wet here, the couple's fine under an archway at Ocean Cliff, newport, Rhode island.

Spring issue of Newport Life

The new issue of Newport Life just arrived, and they've included about 8 of my photographs from an assignment late last fall on mentoring programs. Pick up a copy today. Newport Life is a great magazine to shoot for, because Annie & Andrea, the editors, are very clear and direct on what they want. This is great because i can usually get in and out of a job fairly quickly. Plus, they tell me they love my work. Hey, love me, my work, I love ya back.

The Opening Night & Book Signing

Well, I just got back from the book signing and the opening of my Gallery Show at the University of Rhode Island Library gallery. Did I take any photos? No, even though i had my point and shoot in my pocket. There were so many people to talk to, my guess is a total of 40 to 50 different people came by. Most were friends, although I did see a few faces I didn't recognize. I sold almost all of the books I brought, though i do have a few left over, if anyone is interested, see below post on the book.

Thanks to Peter Silvia, Newport based photographer, who came by with his lovely wife Greer. I appreciate it, Peter.
Thanks to Karen Ramsay, Dean of the URI Library, for inviting me to do this show. It remains up until April 3, if you want to check it out.

Oh, and we sold three prints, so that is enough proceeds to send one Honduran child to school for a year, which the proceeds from the prints and book sale go toward. Thanks everyone.

The Show is Up

I spent this morning with Glenn, Karen & Lisa setting up the Gallery for my Children of Our World exhibit at the University of Rhode Island. We put up 36 prints. This was the culmination of almost 4 years of photography. But mostly it was the culmination of a year of editing, print and framing. It looks great! I'm really pleased.

If you are around the area and want to come to the opening on Monday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. I'd love to see you. I'll have some books for Sale, and some fizzy drinks and nibbles. The address is 15 Lippit Road Kingston, RI. Click on the Title of this Entry above, and you'll be taken to the URI website with Maps.
