The NGO Postcard

This week I'm mailing out this postcard to a bunch of NGO's (Non-Governmental Organizations) asking if they are looking for images of Africa or Central America. I've published some with SAMS, the South American Agency, in their last two annual reports. So I'm hoping to spread the good news.

This image comes from a Market Place in Zimbabwe, when I went to Africa in 2005. I gotta get back there sometime. Wonderful people.

The Last Lecture

Have you seen this? Amazing, refreshing, honest, wonderful. This Carnegie Melon professor is 46, and he has Pancreatic Cancer, maybe 6 months to live. Randy Pauch gave this last Lecture. It's so real. You'll see the world new.

You can view it on abc.com. Just click the title "The Last Lecture" of this Blog entry above. The video is on the top left of the screen.

Megan's Senior Portraits

High School Senior Portraits are coming into the season now. While I don't do very many of them, I do a few each year. Meg wanted her's on the beach, so I arranged for a late afternoon day, and was pleased to get some cloud cover too. Her friend Allyssa was along, so I used her as my lighting grip.

Clients yes, but also friends, as Marissa's mom runs a local restaurant and pub near us. We had fun with lots of people we know from town. Enjoy the Slide show, and the new version of It's a Wonderful Word.

Portraits with a new background

My brother Art, has painted a new background for the studio. I can't wait to use it this fall for the school portraits at our preschool. Fortunately, as our friends from Germany were visiting this summer, I had some models to help me test it out.

I just learned that two of my three submitted prints to the New England Professional Photography Association won Blue ribbon awards at the recent convention. Here they are. Generations, which features Tiffany and her mother and grandmother in the bridal suite, and Clearing Storm, an image I captured while on vacation in Austria two years ago.

Bridal Portrait

Covahne was getting ready at the Hotel Viking in Newport, Rhode Island. It was one of those bright sunny days. I simply had her step into the light. She's got a beautiful semi-profile, and I love how the streaks of light cascade on her dress. In November, you'll be able to see her running in the New York City Marathon. This is a much more traditional photograph than i usually take, but I couldn't resist. I gave it a brighter look when editing in Photoshop.

The New RI Bride Ad

The Rhode Island bride magazine called and asked me for some photography for their 2008 issue. I'm super busy these days, but I sat down at the computer for about 30 minutes, and pulled some favorites to burn to a CD and send off. Then I came across this image of Susan's wedding. WOW! I loved it. So, put together a quick design for a new ad, and off it went.

You can't plan or pose an image like this, it happens. I was watching her through the mirror as she fiddled with her earings. I love the half face, the fact that her head is in shadow to the above right, the expression, the clarity of the photo.
