Sorry, there are no photos yet. The internet connection is not very good. I'm here in Gulfport, Mississippi with a group doing repair work as part of the Hurricane Katrina recovery. I never camee here in the days following Katrina, but it's amazing that 18 months later, this place is still a disaster. While the French Quarter and downtown New Orleans is better, and there will be a Jazz festival this weekend - the surrounding area of New Orleans is one smashed house after another, especially where I stayed in my hotel on the East New Orleans area.
Now we are in Gulfport, Mississippi - and the damage is just as bad, though the recovery seems to be moving along much quicker. Our group has been assigned a house to help rebuild, because the owners had either not paid their insurance premium or that's what the insurance company is claiming. SO with no money, he runs a Motorcycle repair garage out of his home, now a FEMA trailer, they had no choice but to hope for volunteers. A local organization that sprung up after the Hurricance is helping with supplies, and coordinating volunteers to help with the labor, Our group of 17 is just one of many many church and civic groups that have made trips to the area to help with rebuilding homes, such as this gentleman's.
If I have time, and a better conection, I'll try to post some photographs over the weekend. If not, then when I return on the 19th.
