To retouch or not?

Although I am pretty much a naturalist when it comes to my photography - i.e. leaving the orginal image as natural as it was in the original capture. I do see that some retouching can be helpful. Here you see the before and after for Lauren's recnet portraits. Sometimes people say, "Oh, I like it just the way you took it." Then I show them a retouched photo, and they sometimes rethink it. "Well, ok, maybe a little." Click on the above image to get a closer view and see the difference

Some recent portraits I've been doing. It's all about the moment, and capturing the essence of a person in the blink of an eye. I have to say: I love this Photography work, doesn't feel like work.

How Much is Enough?

Everyone talks about Money these Days. How much something costs. How much you make or can make or should make. I was reading Seth Godin's Blog and found this link.

I'm tellin' you. Go to this website, and you'll be stunned.

It's stuff like this that reminds me of my responsibility in this world.

The Season comes to an end

The season of weddings winds down. it was a great year everyone. Thank you so much for inviting me into your lives. I plan to put a best of slide show together in the next week and I'll show it here. I'll include my top favorite 2 or three images from each wedding.

In the meantime, it's time to get me your album selections. My designer is chomping at the bit to do some albums this fall. The deadline for getting stuff to you by Christmas has passed, but Shawn is quick, so maybe you could get lucky.

Looking ahead, I'm looking forward to some creative projects over the Winter. I'll keep you informed.

Vermont in the Rain

Lisa and I are in Vermont for a few days of Rest and Relaxation in the Rain. We have both been so busy the last month that I haven't really posted much on this blog - my apologies. I hope to do better now that things are back to their normally busy times. Here are a few pics from our trip so far. . A visit to Robert Frost's grave and this cool old moss grown, ahhh, outhouse, sweatlodge, shed? Not sure what it is - but when it's pouring rain, you look for stuff like this. All the locals are driving by, looking at us thinking "huh, tourists."

A Great Organization

Heifer. Maybe you've heard of them, maybe not. Check 'em out. Heifer is a non-profit organization that has one of the most effective tools for combating poverty. They use the principles of sustainability. The most simple example is that people can give livestock to a family, that family then uses it to support themselves, then when offspring result the family gives an animal to a neighbor. This multiplication effort is working around the world. Check out www.heifer.org We use them for our Christmas giving every year.
