Our church is beginning a long term relationship with a small village and Episcopal Church in the town of Yuscaran, Honduras. Next week, Lisa and I will be going with a group of 21 people to spend a week in Yuscaran. We'll be starting a number of projects, including a long term project to help develop a micro-enterpirse for the women of the town. In the Third World, women don't have alot of economic power - so any kind of small business is really helpful. We'll also be helping to start construction on a new church building. But mostly, this first trip is just getting to know the people.
So how is my spanish? Muy mal! Very Bad. In fact today, I heard our contact in Honduras was in the Hospital and I called down there. Only problem was, I didn't think about it before calling. Hello, ahh, habla enlish? No was the reply. Ooops. I went to my computer which has an instant translation program. Then I called back the second time and said, "Hola, Sisitio trese ciero siete, por favor."
Here are some pics from our last trip, in 2005, which was mostly a training trip, but I got to go for free last year, cause the organization here in the US wanted a photographer for their annual report. No pay, but I got a glimpse of an amazing country with wonderful people. Honduras is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, so I am glad to be a part of this small impact on poverty. I'll post new pics when I return in late February.
